Janelle's Graduation

So, this is my (Jason's) first time posting on a blog... ever... so we'll see if I can get things to work on here. It was quite the busy week. Janelle graduated from BYU on Thursday the 21st and had her convocation on Friday. Her family and my mom came up to celebrate with us and it was a lot of fun. I'm really proud of Janelle. She's worked really hard and it was awesome to see her graduate. So here are some pictures of graduation and some good times with our family.

Men are nonliving things

So in third grade we've been learning about living and nonliving things and how they both work together to survive. While teaching the first lesson we decided that in order for something to be considered a living organism it has to do three things: take in oxygen, grow/move and reproduce, or for a third grade way of saying it, they have to be able to make more of themselves. So we were having a really good discussion about it and we were able to look at some pictures and decide if they were living or nonliving based on our three rules. One of the girls in class who is very smart had a very concerned look on her face through out the lesson and eventually she raised her hand to ask the question that had been puzzling her. This is about how her question went.

"Mrs. Watson, I'm just a little confused because if you HAVE to be able to reproduce in order to be a living thing...how are men still here?!"

Another student gladly supplied the answer: "THEY'RE NOT LIVING!"

I am OFFICIALLY done with my Teacher Work Sample! It's the last and final big project I have to do before graduation and probably the hardest project i've ever done. But it's FINISHED! Man it feels good!

P.s. Jason is amazing. When I get stressed, I tend to complain about things and he's had to put up with a lot of my complaining lately. I need to do better at being positive when I'm stressed. Is there anything you do to help you stay positive when you get stressed about things? If so i'd love a few (or any) pointers.

Another what-we've-been-up-to post :)

Jason's grandparents took us to a BYU football game. It was my very first one and we got to sit up top right along the 50 yard line! It was a beautiful day.

We had fun making pumpkin jack-o-lantern pancakes one Saturday. They were delicious and so much fun to make.

On our way back from Thanksgiving Break we ran into some pretty bad traffic. We were only going about 20 miles an hour and it was hard to see. once we thought the worst was behind us and we started picking up speed, our tire decided to blow. It had gotten really cold and looked like it just crumbled. We weren't very prepared to sit on the side of the road in a snow storm at night. All we had was a little wind up flash light. I'm grateful we had it. Jason sat and wound it up so we could use it to check the tire. Oh and did I mention we had the rest of our wedding gifts in the trunk? On top of the spare tire? That was fun too. Haha. Once we got a hold of the tripple A people they asked us what mile marker we were at. Jason had to go walk along the freeway to find it and in the meantime almost got buried by a snow plow clearing the highway. It was an eventful trip. We were glad when it was finally over.

We were so excited for Christmas to come that we decorated our apartment a few weeks after Halloween. We figured we would be out of town during the actual holiday visiting our families so why not put it up early and enjoy it?

A few weeks ago we made some BBQ chicken pizza! So. good! We were pretty proud of ourselves. Can you see the cool W on our glasses? We like them.

Heaven in a bag

One of the best purchases i've EVER made. Popcorn is my fav and this stuff is tasty. No pop necessary, perfect proportion of salty/buttery taste and a good fresh crunch! 5 lbs for only 5 bucks. I'm in heaven!

"Good luck"

So today I added another item to my already long list of embarrassing moments. I really had to laugh at myself for this one. I'll be doing my student teaching next semester and before they give us our assignment of where we'll be teaching we have to fill out a Student Teaching Application pkt. It's full of tons of random things and strict specifications. Of course I started filling it out yesterday, the day before it was due. Yes, I tend to procrastinate. Don't we all? So today was just a big rush of trying to put it all together. I was in the Tech lab working away when this random girl sits next to me and starts talking to me saying she put her packet off to the very last minute too and was glad to know there was someone else out there who did too...la la la. So, we're both working away and after a while I picked up my papers from the printer and packed up my things. In my head I'm thinking, "well I don't really know this girl but I'm glad she talked to me for a bit so I'll be friendly back and wish her good luck and say bye." So I pack up, scoot in my chair, lean over in her direction so she can hear my friendly whisper and said, "Good luck!" As I'm walking away she looks up and says slightly awkwardly, ".....thanks?" Ya, then it hit me. I'd been at the printer for a while...It definitely wasn't the same girl I'd talked to and I had just wished some random person good luck! I'm sure she was very confused. Who knows, maybe she needed the luck? Anyhow, I felt very awkward so I hurried up and left. Then I just had to laugh out loud at the whole thing and realized there was another girl right behind probably wondering what the heck i was laughing about. Ha!
